Our Treetops Experience at Home

Our back verandah is amongst the treetops in our backyard, so we are very fortunate to see lots of birds every day, and throughout the year.

This is a collection of the birds we have spotted during the past two years.

Land Birds 26 species
Scaly-breasted Munia (Lonchura punctulata) 16 One of the most common birds we see in the area
Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus) 12 The most common bird seen (and heard) in the local area
Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa) 9 Mother & babies got separated in our backyards - babies rescued and given to wildlife carer
Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) 4 We have a family of 4 that drops in every afternoon for a feed
Australian White Ibis (Threskiornis moluccus) 4 Mostly seen flying around the area
House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) 4 Fairly common bird spotted in the local area
Australasian Figbird (Sphecotheres vieilloti) 4 Is a regular visitor at certain times of the year; Is a regular visitor at certain times of the year
Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) 4 We have a family of 4 that drops in every afternoon for a feed
Australian King Parrot (Alisterus scapularis) 2 Is a regular visitor at certain times of the year
Pied Butcherbird (Cracticus nigrogularis) 2 Is a regular visitor at certain times of the year

Black-faced Cuckooshrike (Coracina novaehollandiae) 1 Only spotted once
Double-barred Finch (Taeniopygia bichenovii) 1 Is a regular visitor at certain times of the year

Silvereye (Zosterops lateralis) 1 Only spotted for about 4 weeks or so during breeding season
